First Christian Church Child Development Center

PHILSOPHY
The First Christian Church Child Development Center provides responsible, developmentally appropriate childcare in a safe, healthy and comfortable environment. We encourage the development of the “whole child” by emphasizing social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and spiritual development. We encourage the parents and families of the children to work with us in a team approach. Open communication is essential and encouraged to ensure that your child’s needs are met as completely as possible. We like to think that we are talented, trained and capable, but we do not know your child as well as you do. We respect your “gut feeling” where your child is concerned. While we hope to become an invaluable part of your child’s life, we know that we cannot take your place, nor do we aspire to do so. We believe in an open-door policy, welcoming parents at any time!
We believe in developmentally appropriate discipline. Our church is a member of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). We believe strongly in teaching children behaviors that will serve them well their entire life. We do not believe in “crime and punishment.” Even God knew that our serving a punishment would never justify us. He sent His Son, Jesus. Therefore, we do not punish every little infraction. We believe children learn more from natural consequences. Redirection is our primary form of discipline. We get children interested in doing what is appropriate instead of emphasizing inappropriate behaviors. We act as models of the behaviors we want from the children (much like Jesus).
